Read Your Way

This project encouragd reading among children and young people in Hastings Read Your Way was part of the Get Hastings Reading campaign from Hastings Opportunity Area. It was delivered by a consortium of partners including Hastings Storytelling Festival, led by Education Futures Trust. 
The campaign donated over 10,000 books to children across Hastings.

Hastings Storytelling Festival delivered free reading events for Read Your Way, funded by Hastings Opportunity Area and films by local storyteller, Kevin Graal.

Virtual Children’s Book Carnival and Wagon Parade

Local schools and families take part in this free storytelling day supported by Read Your Way and Hastings Opportunity Area
Usually held on the Stade in Hastings Old Town; this year the event will be online.

Tuesday 8 October 2019:
Oskar’s Amazing Adventure by Theatre Fideri

Around 60 Key Stage One children at Churchwood Primary School were treated to this puppet show, about a day in the life of a mischievous puppy in the Swiss mountains. The show was attended by the author, Colin Granger, who gave each class a copy of the original book.

Saturday 7 December 2019:

Read Your Way at Christmas

This event at FSN included live comedy shows, workshops, storytelling, stalls, face painting, refreshments, Santa’s grotto and live music. Over 50 free books were given out to children.

Saturday 12 October 2019:

Talking Heads by Impossible Theatre

This free public event saw Hollington lit up by a giant audio-visual installation. Passing residents had their faces scanned and displayed on giant screens, with well-known phrases from books, poems, songs, theatre, film and musicals coming from their mouths.
